LIMITED EDITION OF 50
I had just finished a series of pictures called Nature Studies, which dealt with junkscapes and nudes, consumerism and the commodification of women. The Portraits series evolved from there. Pictures that are important to me have a social narrative and manifest opposing forces. They offer a way to engage a viewer’s thoughts about ethics and politics. The physicality of collage introduces visual variables that are immediate and credible. Collage offers viewers images that can be understood viscerally as well as intellectually. I’m drawn to ideas that are contrary in nature and character and that address our humanness.
