Behind the papillon curtain
I took this photo when after many years I visited my country of origin, and I walked in the streets of Budapest. The city, the life and the social environment had all changed; I felt like a visitor. To me, the photo conveys the doubt I felt when capturing a scene, an object or a person in the changed country as they often remain images divorced from local circumstances that I am not aware of. The papillon curtain allows me to catch a glimpse of an apartment but the life of the people behind the curtain remains hidden. The photo will hopefully convey the visitor's feeling of doubt and will steer up thoughts in the viewer. This work is part of an ongoing project on LensCulture.
