Anchal, Mumbai, 2017
This is a portrait of Anchal Sahani in Mumbai, India with the food she ate in one week. Anchal's father supports his family of five on less than $5 a day, yet his wife buys fresh produce and prepares dinner using a single propane burner on the floor of their one room shanty. Remarkably, Anchal's diet is more nutritious than many middle class Indian kids' diets, which often include fast food. It's a mark of status to be able to afford a $13 personal pizza from Dominoes. In India and in other parts of the world, globalization is having a profound impact on diet and with Daily Bread I'm calling attention to fundamental changes in diet.
