Alexey Orlov was born in 1963 in the city Yoshkar-Ola, deep Russian province. He raised there and graduated from a local university with higher education in the Humanities.
Alexey started taking shots during his second year of military service for his demob album. Then Alexey recorded a chronicle of his good-for-nothing life for about five years: taking photos of friends as a memento, having a good time, and so on.
After that he wanted something more, as they say, so he photographed a naked doll in a dirty puddle and the “Forget-Me-Not” shop behind barbed wire. He took this to the city’s photo club “Phoenix”, where he also met Sergey Chilikov, by then a well-known Russian photographer, and his associates. From that day his photographic education was conducted in the specific atmosphere of the Yoshkar-Ola school of photography and he became familiar with the activities of the “Fact” group, which naturally impressed him. Thereafter Alexey found his own place in the world of photography and began to establish himself as an independent photo artist, becoming a member of the Russian Union of Art Photographers in 1991.
Alexey then became an active participant at numerous club exhibitions in his native city and internationals photo salons in Russia. Since 2005 Alexey has held a number personal exhibitions in Moscow during the biennale of Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow (Moscow House of Photography) and also in the «Photographic Union» gallery.
Orlov’s works are included in the Moscow Multimedia Art Museum collection and various private collections.
At present he lives in his native city Yoshkar-Ola and works on several new photographic projects.
